It never fails, folks. It truely is never what you know, it is who you know.

After six months of unemployment I think that I interviewed for a job today.
It wasn’t one out of the paper and it wasn’t one that I found on line. I
interviewed for a job that a friend hooked me up with. Over 600 resumes sent out
into the ether, over the fax line and through the mail and the job that it looks
like I may get is because of someone I knew.

I know, what do I care… I’ve got a job, right?

Don’t get me wrong, I am actually very happy that it looks like I will have a
steady stream of reliable income. It is just that after so much time, so many
interviews and everything else that has transpired it makes me wonder why this
is the only avenue I can get work through. It makes me question whether I really
have the skills for the things I was applying for.

Now I realize of course that there is credibility lent to having someone on
the inside saying, "He’s cool, hire him." That certainly has to be better then
just being the piece of paper or electronic file that comes in without anything
else other then words and pretty paper representing a candidate. That right
there could really have been the clincher. Having someone to stand up for you is
a good thing.

I’ll shut up now and see if an offer letter arrives.
