Wow… What A Nice Day…
Tuesday 6 November 2001 @ 3:42 pm

It never fails, folks. It truely is never what you know, it is who you know.

After six months of unemployment I think that I interviewed for a job today.
It wasn’t one out of the paper and it wasn’t one that I found on line. I
interviewed for a job that a friend hooked me up with. Over 600 resumes sent out
into the ether, over the fax line and through the mail and the job that it looks
like I may get is because of someone I knew.

I know, what do I care… I’ve got a job, right?

Don’t get me wrong, I am actually very happy that it looks like I will have a
steady stream of reliable income. It is just that after so much time, so many
interviews and everything else that has transpired it makes me wonder why this
is the only avenue I can get work through. It makes me question whether I really
have the skills for the things I was applying for.

Now I realize of course that there is credibility lent to having someone on
the inside saying, "He’s cool, hire him." That certainly has to be better then
just being the piece of paper or electronic file that comes in without anything
else other then words and pretty paper representing a candidate. That right
there could really have been the clincher. Having someone to stand up for you is
a good thing.

I’ll shut up now and see if an offer letter arrives.

Once again into the Abyss…
Monday 5 November 2001 @ 3:41 pm

Oh joy, the start of another month and I am still out there in the mean cold economy without
employment!

It is kind of odd that my own feeling of self worth can be dictated completely by the way
that I spend my days or the income that I bring in to the household. I know that I’m actually
a decent person yet having this one thing missing has a profound effect on me.

The part that I suppor that I am really not happy about is that if I had started going to
the gym when all this has started I would be in pretty darn good shape right now. There is no
real exscuse for not having gone since the gym isn’t even two miles from my house. For some reasonI have preferred to sit in the safety and shelter of my home and hide from everything, apparently even myself (yet amazingly I haven’t had to hide from food at all).

What am I getting at with all of this? Nothing really. No real point what so ever. Just
recording some of my thoughts. Guess I’m still just a little bit bummed by such a low turn out
for Halloween and I’m probably crashing from a sugar high right now.

Monday, Monday…
Friday 2 November 2001 @ 3:39 pm

I am now completely convinced that the latest whacky game to sweep the nation is “Smuggle
Weapons Through Airport Security.”

So far in the past two months I have heard of or read about at least 10 cases of people
carrying weapons up to the gate or on to the plane itself. This type of activity just supports
my theory that people are both stupid and nuts and just don’t know any better. Why on Earth would ::ANYONE:: in this current climate try to get stuff through Airport Security just because they can? Is it so they can triumphantly cheer, “I outwitted a minimum wage employee right before I got slapped with a Federal Crime!” Way to go Einstein.

These type of people just really piss me off because their own need to feel superior does
nothing but undermines the feeling of safety we as a country have. I am not standing up for the airlines because they really need to do something to make the security check points actually secure (or we need the government to pass legislation so that we don’t have them spending so little money on these checkpoints). I just think that anyone trying to make a point by sneaking things past security is they type of person Darwin would have ruled against if we weren’t as civilized as we were and we lived amongst very large carnivores.

I’m also, once again, going to rail against the local news. People are still terrified and we
know that life has changed forever. Is there any particular reason just about every one of the local stations needs to run an expose on how Airport security is still incredibly inept? Mind you I haven’t watched a single one of these stories because I still want to have the power and strength to be able to set foot on a plane again, but if these bozos are exposing holes in security it seems to me that they are both doing a public disservice ::AND:: helping to let other potential terrorists know that their ability to high jack planes is still out there. I also want to know if these people are getting nailed with Federal charges as well for violating security. I don’t care if you have a press credential asshole, if you got something to where it doesn’t belong you should be prosecuted just like all the other total morons that have been doing it for the past two months.

Argh man, just ARGH.
